The Chequers Inn in some form has been on this site since the 1800’s. During the latter part of the 20th century, a small touring field was added and used by locals and patrons of the public house. Many of our current day campers and caravanners can recall both visits to the Inn and camping holidays from days gone by. As happened with so many, the inn was closed in 2002 however the touring field as it was, remained open.
Despite having no previous experience in the development and operation of a campsite, when in 2012 the opportunity arose for us to purchase The Chequers, we took it. And so began the creation of what is now The Chequers Caravan Park.
First jobs included the implementation of a more robust electrical supply to the touring field resulting in all 24 of our pitches now having access to a 16amp electrical hookup. We added an additional drinking water point, enhanced the chemical waste point and added an information shed. To cater for customers looking to stop overnight on their way to or from Europe, we have developed a hard standing pitch area which is in use all year around.
We have developed a play area in the middle of our touring field which ensures that our younger campers are kept occupied during their stay with us. In 2019 we purchased a wooded area at the rear of the touring field. This area continues to evolve and provides campers both young and old with an opportunity to wander amongst the trees, walk their dog, perhaps have a picnic away from their pitch, and maybe even spot a gnome or two!
Every day is a learning day and we strive to provide a campsite that meets the requirements of the modern day camper. Whether you are in a campervan, motorhome, caravan or tent, we would love to welcome you to our site.
Thank you for taking the time to check out our website and we look forward to seeing you at The Chequers Caravan Park soon!
